Did you manage to complete the assignment?
Well Done!

Now, let’s take a look back at what just occurred. What happened when you read the word dub? Were you able to follow the directions? Were you able to complete the assignment? Did you go blank? Did you guess at the meaning?

studytech-boy.jpgThe fact is when you do not know the meaning of a word; ultimately you are stopped. In the drill you just completed, you were unable to correctly do the assignment. If you guessed at the meaning – once learning the definition that applies, you learned you guessed incorrectly. Guessing meanings is one way students are taught to deal with words they do not understand. However, as you experienced, it isn’t the most workable solution and it certainly does not bring about full understanding of the word nor does it contribute to expanding one’s vocabulary.

If you take a look the various subjects that students study – even in the 3rd grade, there are tremendous amounts of commonly misunderstood words even particular to the subjects. Looking further, in the different industries, professions and careers, there are nomenclatures or vocabularies of each field. If you are a jet pilot, there is a nomenclature or vocabulary used for this sector. If you are a cook, there is a nomenclature or vocabulary used completely aside from our regular language, same for a doctor, car mechanic, teacher, engineer and so on. To the degree a student is able to learn, comprehend and use the language is the degree of success the student will have in that subject or career.

So, how do you prepare your child to be an independent, motivated, life-long learner?

There is an answer for your child – Study Technology.

Study Technology is a learning system that produces a greatly improved result when used exactly (by “Technology” is meant methods of application to obtain a specific result). L. Ron Hubbard developed Study Technology to help students truly understand what they study and essentially learn how to learn. Study Technology is the basis of all Applied Scholastics programs and teaching methods.

Study Technology consists of tools and techniques teachers can use to improve the learning rates of their students. It can be used by students to improve their ability to understand and use the materials they read and study.

Study Technology is not a collection of study tips or memory tricks, but rather a system of learning how to learn. Using Study Technology brings about an understanding that results in the ability to apply what one learns at school, in one’s work and in life.

Study Technology is something new in the field of education. It is the spearhead to a bright new world of understanding and achievement, and it forms the basis of the success of all Applied Scholastics educational programs.
